The Glitter Litter is Here!

Thanks for all your good wishes and prayers. I am so happy to report that all puppies survived and are doing well -- let's all hope that continues. Cadi is also well -- she is a rather enthusiastic mother and sends puppies in flips with her thorough cleaning! Hopefully she will mellow a bit but for now she is very excited about her babies and wants to make certain they are spotless.

The puppies range in size from 12.15 ounces to 19 ounces so they are not huge puppies. As Nicole reported, there are four girls and four boys. C sections are scary but we had lots of help at the vet clinic and everyone did well. We were home within three hours of the puppies' birth and everyone is nursing well.

Joan and Galen are off to bed and I will be staying up tonight with Cadi and the puppies. The biggest danger to the puppies would seem to be hypothermia caused by Cadi licking them all the time! So I will be here in the whelping box watching movies and etc. and making sure everyone eats and stays relatively dry and warm.

The picture of two puppies was taken shortly after their birth while they were still in the glass warming case at the vet. The one of Cadi was taken as she was waking up -- the vet's husband called it her spring break look :) The others are ones I took when we got home.

I sure miss Kim tonight -- he is the one who typically does these all night shifts when we have brand new puppies -- I am usually in bed by 9 pm so this should be an interesting night!

Tomorrow we will do individual introductions/pictures.

Thanks again for all your good thoughts!

  1. I don't know where you get the energy at this point to take and send pictures and write commentaries -- I was looking forward to them, but really didn't expect anything till tomorrow morning!

They are beautiful! Such pink noses, and all clean and shiny. I remember seeing that maternal enthusiasm, with puppies being flipped over; doesn't seem to bother them much.

Best to the glitterati, their mother, and their wonderful care-givers.

  3. So NEAT!! You must run on an extra supply of adrenaline Mary-Ann. I see little, little black spots on their noses at only a few hours old!

I thought these puppies would weigh more than you stated. Cadi looked sooo BIG in the pics. I thought if she didn't have a dozen pups, then they must be the "G"igantic litter, each being a double-whopper. (keeping with the "G" scheme of things, hee, hee)

What I can see from these pictures I think that Mom & Dad must be VERY proud. Do I smell cigar smoke waffing down from Canada?

Take Care Mary-Ann, a hug from AZ :D

  4. Those babies are absolutely beautiful! And it sounds like Cadi expects to keep them that way . . . :)

M-A, I don't know how you're doing it after all you've been through already, but I wish you some effective caffeine and exciting movies tonight! Netflix lets you watch free movies online, by the way. Surfthechannel.com lets you watch tv shows and movies online, just in case you need some more variety.

Good luck and thanks for posting these pictures. Those puppies are indeed precious, congratulations to Cadi and Jed!

  7. Happy Birthday to the Glitter bunch. I am glad to see that Maisie was wrong with the guess of one zillion but that I was right with the guess of eight. I hope everybody had a relatively restful night and that you, Mary-Ann, can have a restful day today.

Love the pictures of the sweet little tri-colored guinea pigs ; )

  8. "G"lorious news and welcome to the "Eight is Enough" crew! Four girls and four boys - does it get much better than that? I can't tell you how happy and relieved we are to hear that everyone did well and are now happy members of the Kaibab Klan. CONGRATULATIONS to Cadi for a great job baking, for her excellent care, and to everyone who helped with delivery and care! I wish I could have been there to be part of this "G"lorious miracle.

I can't wait to hear more about these babies - their faces are so sweet. While Jed and Eli enjoyed their liver cigars in celebration, I opted for the chocolate version - healthier and tastier, IMO. :)

M-A I wish I was there to help. I'm envious.

    Trish & proud daddy Jed.
